Looking at maybe getting a used raptor if I could find a good deal. I’ve been looking at 2020-2023. The highest mileage I was thinking of getting a used raptor in would be about 30k or so. Maybe even 50k.
First off, the difference between a 2020 truck and a 2021 is significant. Gen 2 ran from 2017-2020, and Gen 3 started in 2021, with some pretty major changes between the two. Each generation has its pros and cons, and it really depends on the experience you’re looking for and what you’re willing to spend. The wildcard is always how the truck was used.
I’ve noticed a lot of older folks buy these trucks because they’re so comfortable on the road, and many of them end up as garage queens. Mileage doesn’t tell you much, unfortunately. In fact, higher mileage could just mean an older driver who mostly used it for highway driving.
I’d opt for a new one since Raptors hold their value so well. You never really know what a used one has been through. I recently saw a base 2021 with 20k miles, in Code Orange, listed for $67k, and it just sold. It had been sitting there for at least three months.
- The suspension and interior is worth getting a 3rd gen.
I was in the same situation—comparing Gen 2s and Gen 3s. At least in my market (Arizona), the price difference between low-mileage Gen 2s and Gen 3s wasn’t that significant. It made more sense to spend the extra money and go for a Gen 3, even though I personally think the Gen 2s look better.
I’m about to pull the trigger on a 2021 for 64k, that has 35k miles.
I just got a 2023 with 671 miles for 80K!
