Used Raptors, higher mileage but gold certified?

Starting on the process of looking to upgrade from a Jeep Gladiator and looking at used Raptors. I was thinking about a bronco but after running numbers it felt like the money in a fairly base one could be better used on a pre-owned Raptor. One dealership near me has a few available but a 2019 with 63,000 miles caught my eye. It’s listed at $48,600 and is gold certified, 802a package. CARFAX shows a minor sideswipe that was repaired.

Mainly since I haven’t researched raptors heavily since around 2016, would this seem like a decent deal on this generation and what should I look for? I do know the carfax does not show the phaser replacement I keep reading about but is the gold certification enough of a safety net for the major issues. This would be a daily driver, around 18k miles a year. Thanks for the help.

I have a 2018 with 70K miles, and it’s mostly kept in the garage. The cam phasers have been repaired twice, and the transmission was just replaced last month. Each time, it took 3-4 weeks at the dealership without a loaner vehicle. If I hadn’t had the Ford warranty, it would have cost me at least $4.5K.

In my opinion, a Gen 2 Raptor might not make a great daily driver. According to my dealership service manager, there are frequent issues with the 2017-2020 model years, including problems with cam phasers, transmission, turbos, and sunroofs.

You might want to consider a 2021 model or newer. If you do go for a Gen 2, look for one that comes with a Ford extended warranty, rather than a third-party warranty.

If you’re buying a new or used one from a dealership, check if you can purchase the Ford extended warranty as well. I’m not sure what “gold certified” means, but make sure to get everything in writing. A dealership should also be able to provide the service history for used Raptors.

Go with your mechanic when going to buy

Be careful not to get swindled
