Used purchase? Ford Raptor

Hello all.

I was wondering if buying used is worth it for what these trucks could potentially “go through” and I’m not about to spend 100k on a truck brand new.

If this is repeated I’m sorry. I’m an idiot sometimes and forget to search

Sadly, most Raptors are just Mall Terrain Vehicles that have never actually seen dirt.

Sure, some have been abused, but there are plenty of very nice used trucks available.

If you’re buying a used Raptor and aren’t in California, you can get a reasonably priced extended warranty plan through Lombard or Zeigler.

They’re awesome trucks, but it really depends on your budget. If you buy used, either get one with an extended warranty or make sure to factor in the cost of buying one. Another thing to consider is whether you plan to off-road it and what type of off-roading you’ll be doing. You can get a stock, low-mileage Gen 2 for around $40-50k, or a slightly higher-mileage one with extras for about the same price. If your budget is higher, there are a few Gen 3s available for under $70k.

I’ve owned five Raptors over the past decade, all of them used. Take a good look at the truck, check the maintenance history, and look for any signs of abuse. I haven’t had any major issues with them, just minor things like CVs or cameras going out. The extended warranty usually pays for itself.

The last one I bought was a 2023 37PP for $20k under MSRP. It was a clean truck, but it sat on the lot for three months and dropped nearly $10k in value.

Funny enough, the trucks with the most issues were the Gen 1s—rust, even in no-salt states.
