I’m considering getting a Ford Raptor, but I’m not sure if it’s the smartest move. I make around 70k a year, and financing might be tight. Has anyone here bought one? Was it worth it?
Buying a fancy car is something most young people want to do at least once, even if it’s not the smartest choice. It’s a life lesson you’ll probably regret later. If you’re set on it, enjoy the experience while it lasts.
Are you sure this makes sense financially? It sounds like you already know it’s not the best idea.
Maybe look at a second-hand Triton instead? You could save yourself a lot of stress compared to buying a brand-new Raptor, realizing it’s too much to handle financially, and then selling it at a big loss.
If Dave Ramsey could see this, he’d probably tell you off, but hey, sometimes people gotta make their own decisions.
For a second, I thought I was on some car meme forum. Is this serious?
A friend once told me, ‘If you need to borrow money to afford it, you can’t actually afford it.’ Financing a car that costs more than your annual income is pretty risky.
Let’s be real—drivers of these trucks often have a reputation for being aggressive on the road. Are you ready for that?
Hope you’re ready for that 11.8 highway fuel economy.

Exactly. The V6 turbo petrol engine guzzles gas like crazy. Between the loan, fuel, and maintenance, this is going to burn a hole in your wallet—especially on a 70k salary. And don’t forget, rent and other costs can go up too. Are you sure about this?
Just don’t.
Only one post in your history? This feels like trolling.
If speed is what you’re after, consider a Falcon or Commodore. Just because the Raptor is newer doesn’t mean it’s better.
I’d buy a $2,000 Hilux 2WD and save the rest for a house. Spending big on a flashy truck screams insecurity.
Have you got your high-vis vest and tailgating skills ready?
I know it’s hard to talk someone out of this once their mind’s made up. I’ve been there myself. But just remember, the Raptor isn’t exactly practical. The suspension makes it good for small jumps, but it’s not great for towing, and the fuel economy is awful. If you want something reliable, go for a Wildtrak or something similar. You’ll save money and still get a great truck.
How much of this will you finance? This seems like a terrible choice. Raptors are fuel hogs, and everything from insurance to maintenance will be expensive. At 70k a year, this could put you in a tough spot. Run the numbers before making a decision.
Spending $90K on a truck? That’s a lot of money for something that will depreciate fast. If I were you, I’d stick to a $25-30K car and invest the rest. A used Hilux or something similar would do the job just fine. In a decade, you’ll thank yourself for making the smarter choice.
@Linden
Exactly. A car might feel good for a few months, but solid investments like property or ETFs will give you long-term security. Save the Raptor dreams for when you’re in a better financial position.
Keep your current car, save up for a house, and then buy toys like a Raptor later. Cars aren’t investments, and gas prices won’t be going down anytime soon.
