I’m considering getting a 2024 Raptor and wanted to ask: how does it perform in the snow on the road, not off-roading? With the extra power and beefy all-terrain tires, I’m wondering if it might slip more than something like a standard XLT.
I know they’re built for tough terrain, but that doesn’t always mean they’re great in snow. I live in Northeast Ohio, so winters can be mild, or we can get hit with 8-10 inches of lake effect snow fast.
I picked up my '23 Raptor in North Dakota last February and drove 3,000 miles back to Alaska through extreme snow and ice. The truck was fantastic, handled everything without a problem. You’ll have a hard time finding anything more capable straight off the lot.
The Raptor has more horsepower, more torque, and is lighter than the Power Wagon. They both have the same tire size, and the Raptor 37 package has even bigger tires. Not sure why the Power Wagon would be better.
Where am I being a fanboy? I’m just comparing the two trucks. Never said the Raptor was better, just pointing out the differences. In snow, the Raptor’s front LSD works pretty much like a locker. I can see your point for rock crawling, but not for snow.
I live in Washington and regularly drive through snow in mountain passes. Everything from wet, slushy snow to dry powder and ice. The Raptor does just fine. I keep it in 4A (AWD mode), which is great for snow and rain. I’m running Cooper Discoverer Maxx tires.
I’ve driven through two full-on blizzards in the Sierra Nevadas and the Raptor did great. That said, KO2s aren’t the best on ice, so if you’re worried, consider getting winter-rated tires.
Haven’t driven in snow yet, but my '23 with 35s handles rain perfectly. In 4A, it feels like you’re driving on dry pavement. I live in Texas, so check back with me after our one week of snow and ice in January
