Fuel Question Ford Raptor

I had a 2017 Raptor and absolutely loved it until every time it rained, it smelled like mold. I sniffed and tore apart as much as I could and couldn’t find the source. Long story short, I traded it in (100K miles on it) for basically a brand new 22’ WIldtrak Bronco due to the inventory shortage and preordering it.

Anyhow thinking about getting back into a Raptor but was wondering fuel requirements. My old one ran fine on 87 octane and I’d toss in 91 on highway drives. Has anyone ran the '25 on 87/89 Octane? It states 91 on it, but rather just as you all.

I use 93 octane fuel. Over the years, I’ve owned several turbocharged cars (including a 550hp '90 300ZX), and one key lesson I learned early was to always use the best fuel available for these types of vehicles. High-quality fuel helps prevent pre-detonation—which can have serious consequences—and also improves both mileage and performance. As someone else mentioned: if the cost of fuel is an issue, then owning this kind of car may not be a wise choice.

The owner’s manual states that the truck is built to run on 87 octane, but you’ll experience improved performance if you use 91 or higher.

The truck requires 91 octane fuel to prevent pre-ignition, which can cause engine damage. If you can’t afford the right fuel, a Raptor may not be the best choice for you.

You’re halfway there—don’t buy a Raptor if you can’t afford premium gas. However, it’s worth noting that you don’t have to use 91+ octane, and it won’t harm your engine if you don’t. The HO EcoBoost isn’t like the Hellcat engine, which actually requires premium fuel.

Yep and taking your advice change your oil every 10k miles! You’ll be fine!

I know, crazy to follow the manufacturer’s service intervals and fuel guidance, right? What do they know…

You don’t change your oil every 10k?

I change it every 5k.
