Ford Raptor R vs Ram TRX… which off-road beast takes the crown?

Caught a comparison between the Ford Raptor R and the Ram 1500 TRX. These trucks are next-level off-road monsters. Curious to hear your thoughts—who’s the real king of the dirt?

Haven’t watched it yet, but my guess is the Raptor will dominate off-road, and the TRX will crush in a drag race.

Edit: Just started watching and recognized Jason from his old YouTube channel (AutoEdits). He did a really fun Mustang build back in the day. Cool to see him landing a big gig like this.

@Ashton
You’re pretty much right. Raptor barely won in small jumps (‘whoops’) and articulation, while the TRX won the drag race. The climb event was a tie.

The tests weren’t super scientific—lots of subjectivity, driver error, and inconsistency. Felt more like an excuse to mess around with monster trucks than a serious comparison.

Makes sense.

TRX was on 35s in the test. There’s another video where they tested a TRX on 37s, and the Raptor pulls ahead and wins. Tire size makes a big difference.

Tire size isn’t just about weight. It affects gearing, rotational mass, and moment of inertia. Bigger tires suck up torque and power exponentially.

@Ashton
Watched a lot of his Wrangler and trail videos. Seems like a genuinely cool guy.

I’d love a Raptor R, but the markups are ridiculous.

I used to own a TRX, and it might be the best vehicle I’ve ever had. Still miss it, even though I love my Blackwing now. The TRX was so good at handling potholes and rough roads—it’s underrated for that. The cost of gas and its size in cities/parking garages are drawbacks, though.

@Indigo
I test drove one and didn’t like it. Ended up going with a Denali instead.

Fair enough! Even working at GM, I recommend Ram over Chevy/GMC to most people who ask.

@Indigo
The Denali just felt nicer, and that’s what I wanted.

@Indigo
If you can afford a TRX, gas costs shouldn’t be an issue, right?

Being able to afford $200 a week on gas and actually wanting to spend it are two very different things lol.

I think most people would feel the same about those markups.

My dealer had one, and everyone said the price was coming down. Then someone bought it for $80k over MSRP!

Raptor all the way. The TRX doesn’t have selectable drive modes (always 4x4), no exhaust mode options, doesn’t handle small bumps as well, weighs 600 lbs more, and won’t last as long off-road. I could keep going lol.
