If I want to change my beadlock wheel’s ‘rings’ to the silver ones, what should I get if I don’t do any off roading, mainly just travel a lot on the highway?
I saw there’s the functional beadlock ring kit which is recommended for only off road and the beauty rings, which are like the ones it originally comes with. Just want to confirm from others that the functional beadlock ring kit is not the best idea due to the use I give the truck. The only thing is that I cannot find any good beauty rings on the web.
You can have the beauty rings powder-coated in a different color if you’d like, and it shouldn’t cost more than a couple of hundred bucks at a local shop.
However, functional beadlocks can be pricey, and they sit away from the rims to create space for the tires. If you add the functional rings without mounting the tires, it won’t look good. But if you do mount the tires, it will look correct, although you might risk getting a ticket since they aren’t DOT approved, depending on where you live.
So, if you don’t actually need the beadlock functionality, just go for powder-coating the beauty rings.
Thanks! It’s said that tire wear is improved because the tires have a flatter spread. The only possible downside is that the bolts might loosen over time, but I know several people who’ve had beadlocks for years and have never experienced that issue, especially with these Ford beadlocks. If you’re willing to check them regularly to ensure they’re staying tight, you shouldn’t encounter any problems. Mine haven’t loosened at all.
Powder coating them, as you suggested, is probably the best option. Thanks for the advice! I’m curious about how they’ll look once they’re powder-coated, though.
Quick question, other than them not being DOT approved, is there anything bad about having them on day to day? Does it affect the drive, the use and wear of the tires, anything of that sort?
While it can add extra weight to the wheels, which might impact ride quality and fuel efficiency, if it’s installed and balanced correctly, it shouldn’t cause any damage or safety issues.
