At ford they said they needed to replace the top of my engine block basically cause it cracked and I have the money to fix this but should I? I wanna get a new truck I just got a boat and started towing. My friend told me he sees why I wanna just fix it but he feels it would be dumb to put it back into that truck I really don’t know what I should do I feel dumb cause I want a white 2024 ford tremor f250 and I know I should buy from another company but ugh I really do not know what I should do here need help
Leave it in a rough neighborhood, hope it gets stolen, and then file an insurance claim.
Get a second opinion from another dealer. I’m sorry, but if they’re claiming an oil ring failure, that doesn’t explain the coolant loss. You can’t see the rings without a teardown. It seems like they might be trying to get you to trade it in so the mechanic can score a nearly free new truck. Plus, spending $14k versus $90+k on a new truck isn’t a tough choice in my opinion. One could be paid off in a year with those payments, while the other would take six or more years. I don’t know, maybe money isn’t an issue for you, but I’d still get a second opinion.
Anyone telling you that $14k is expensive is really out of touch with reality, OP. That’s actually a pretty decent price.
As a former Nissan tech, I used to handle all the V8 short block recalls. If those customers had to pay, it would have been around $27k for parts and labor on something like a Titan. And that was just for the engine block with rods, pistons, and crank. So, $14k for a complete long block, installed, isn’t a bad deal in my opinion.
Would I pay that out of pocket to fix my truck if I were in your shoes? Probably not, but I’m a technician and could do a lot more with $14k!
Pull the engine out one weekend, take it to a speed shop, and bring your checkbook. Tell them, “I want everything forged,” and let them build you a beast that can take down a TRX.
Just pay for the engine; buying a new truck when you already have a 2018 model seems excessive.
It sounds like you’re leaning toward buying a new one, based on your replies. I’d say go for it. $14k is a lot. Either get a second opinion or make the final payment, sell the truck, and put that $14k towards the money from the sale to get the 2024 Tremor you’ve been eyeing.
Real American cars shouldn’t have these kinds of issues. A 6-year-old car shouldn’t be falling apart like that. Downvote me all you want, but congrats on the “shitbox.”
We just quoted a price of $18,450 for a new Ford long block for a 2012 EcoBoost. Honestly, that’s not a bad deal for a new EcoBoost engine.
