What’s the best year for buying a Certified Pre-Owned Raptor?

Looking at a few options for Certified Pre-Owned Raptors. Any advice on which year is the best pick? Attaching a link to one of them:

Of those three, the white 2018 is the top choice. It has the 802A package, which adds about $10k worth of upgrades.

The grey 2019 has the 801A, and the blue 2019 is a base model (800A).

This guy knows his stuff!

@Emlyn
Haha, thanks! I did a ton of research before pulling the trigger on my Gen 2 Raptor. Totally worth it.

How do you figure out the trim level just by looking? Genuinely curious.

@Zora
Easy! Higher trims on Gen 2 have painted mirrors with spotlights and painted door handles. The interior photos also make it obvious—dashboard tech or the lack of it is a dead giveaway.

Got it! Thanks for explaining.

I paid $55k for a CPO 2019 with 40k miles a few months ago. I had to go to Havasu since prices in California are way higher.

Just a heads-up: if you’re registering in CA, be prepared for extra costs like smog checks, weighing the truck, DMV fees, taxes, and registration. If I had to do it again, I might pay a little more just to avoid the DMV hassle!

@Joss
I get that. I moved out of California recently because the costs and headaches just weren’t worth it anymore. Best decision for my family, though I didn’t want to leave.

I’ve got the same Performance Blue on my 2019. It’s such a great color. Go with the blue one! :ok_hand:t5:

I was thinking Leadfoot Grey might be the better pick.

Leadfoot Grey is a solid choice too, but Performance Blue just pops!

Just a heads-up: the grey on that one is “Magnetic Grey.” Leadfoot Grey wasn’t available for 2019 models. Still, both are great colors!

I’ve been looking for CPO Raptors in Colorado, and prices are nuts. Nothing low mileage or certified is anywhere near affordable here. Everything costs $5k-$10k more than in other states.

I’d love to own a Raptor, but not at these prices!

@Caden
Same here in Loveland. The only 2020 near me with under 45k miles is listed for $62k. It’s a loaded 802A, but still, that price is ridiculous. Don’t even get me started on used 2021s.

Exactly! Paying $62k for a used 2020 or 2021 that originally cost $65k new makes no sense. For that money, I’d rather get a CPO Porsche SUV or a nice used Audi S4. Better performance, interiors, and fuel efficiency for the price.

Honestly, I’m about to give up on the idea of buying a Raptor altogether and look for something else.

Go for the blue 2019. It’s got lower miles, beadlock-capable wheels, and better shocks than the 2018. Also, I think 2018s still had plastic oil pans—no thanks.

The blue 2019 is a base model (800A), which is the least desirable trim. Just something to keep in mind. Mileage isn’t much different between the options.

I’ve got a Performance Blue one with 95k miles. Wrapped it around a few trees a couple of years ago, but it’s still kicking. Wanna buy mine? :joy:

Do those years have issues with peeling steering wheels?
