I just spent $3800 on repairs for my 2013 Land Cruiser and I’m worried it might be the start of more issues. While it was in the shop, I got to drive a 2024 Tundra and loved having a truck. Now, I’m thinking about a Raptor because it seems like the ultimate truck.
On another forum, people said I was nuts for even considering this, but I feel like a Raptor might be a better comparison to my LC. What do you guys think?
Some answers to questions I think might come up:
Do I need a truck bed? Kind of. I’m a hobbyist woodworker, and threading boards through my LC’s seats is scratching up the interior.
Do I go off-roading? Sometimes. I shoot out in the desert every couple of months.
Why a Raptor? I like that it’s got modern tech, is off-road ready, and doesn’t need upgrades like new tires.
Honestly, you’re exactly the type of person the Raptor is made for. So many people buy it and complain about gas mileage or towing, but it sounds like it fits your needs perfectly.
Sounds like you already made up your mind and just want someone to agree. The Raptor is awesome. You won’t regret it. You’ve had your fun with the Land Cruiser—it’s time for a change.

At the end of the day, only you can decide. Why care what anyone else thinks? Do what feels right to you.
This is all about what feels right for you. It’s not a practical choice—it’s an emotional one. I test drove a Raptor and ended up passing because it just didn’t feel like me. If it feels right for you, though, then it’s worth it.
I had a 2014 Land Cruiser with a small lift, sliders, and beefy tires. I switched to a 2023 Tremor and honestly prefer it. The LC was great, but the terrible mileage and range really wore me down.

I had a 2014 Lexus LX570, sold it, and got a 2013 Raptor. No regrets! The LC is nice, but the Raptor is on a different level for fun and performance.
Great to hear! How’s the build quality on the Raptor? Any issues?
@Jin
Depends on the generation. Gen 1 is reliable but old tech. Gen 2 had cam phaser issues, so be careful with those. Gen 3 is almost like a luxury truck now.
Are you looking at new or used? I went from looking at a BMW 5 Series to a Tesla to a Tundra, but I ended up with a 2018 Raptor in 2020. It’s perfect for my family and lifestyle. I don’t fully trust the 3.5 engine, but the rest of the truck is amazing.
