Thinking about a Raptor… is it the right choice?

I’ve always loved the way the F-150 Raptor looks. Right now, I drive a 2018 Explorer, and I’m happy with it, but I have the option to upgrade if I want. I think the Raptor would be a really fun daily driver, but I have a couple of questions: 1) If I only take it off-road a few times a year, is it still worth it? 2) I really like the look of the 802A package compared to the 801A, but is it a waste of $11k if it’s mostly for the looks?

If I don’t go with the Raptor, I’d probably consider the Lexus 700h or Infiniti QX80.

If you want a truck that makes you smile every time you see it and drive it, the Raptor is probably the way to go.

I agree! Every morning, I start it up and love hearing that sound.

@Ray
Man, I can’t wait to have that experience.

It’s gonna put a big grin on your face, trust me.

Any idea when and which one you’re planning to get?

Planning to start shopping around April or May for a 2024 Shelter Green 802A.

@Mack
Saw one at a dealership near me for $94k (they say they have a lower price if you ask). It has 37s, Recaros, all the upgrades. Not sure if that’s a good deal, but it’s been sitting there a while.

@Blakeley
Right now, MSRP or lower is the way to go. If they’re asking more, just walk away.

Might be tough if you’re set on an 802A in Shelter Green.

I just checked and found a few listed under MSRP online in less than a minute.

@Abi
Nice, prices are definitely dropping. I’m guessing those are 2024 models?

@Blakeley
Yeah, that’s why I’m waiting a bit. Hoping someone trades in their 2024 for a 2025 by spring, and I can grab one cheaper.

I’m in a similar situation. Currently driving a 2024 M4 Competition, but I used to have an F-150 and really miss the size and feel of a big truck. Thinking of making the switch soon.

I went from a Tacoma to an F80, then a G80, and now I have a 2024 802A Raptor alongside a GT4. No regrets. The G80 is probably the best sports sedan out there, but I actually enjoy driving the Raptor more.

@Dez
I hear that. I got my G82 as a daily, but my job makes me park in a gravel lot, and now I barely drive it. If it gets out once a week, that’s a lot. Just don’t have time to really enjoy it, and it feels like a waste sitting in the garage.

@Dez
No regrets here either.

@Dez
Something about the Raptor’s ‘slow car fast’ vibe makes it more fun than the G82 for me.

It’s a blast as a daily driver, but if you’re in a city with tight parking, garages, or parallel spots, it might be annoying. The 802A package is mostly for looks, so if that’s what you want, go for it. You only live once!

@Teagan
It’s really not that bad to park once you get used to it.
