For anyone that has driven both, can I expect the suspension and overall driving comfort in a raptor R to be similar to a raptor? I have driven the raptor extensively but I’ve only driven a raptor R in a test drive and simply can’t remember if the driving comfort was similar. From what I recall, it felt more firm and rough than the standard raptor, but I also didn’t play with the suspension settings during the test drive.
I finally realized I needed to appreciate my V6 Raptor 37PP, so I ended up getting a CT5-V Blackwing to go with it. The best part? It didn’t cost much more than what the R is going for.
I’ve owned both, and honestly, the R is a total waste of money over MSRP.
I agree. I don’t plan on paying more, and if I do, it will only be because I received a fair deal on a trade-in.
Since you’ve had both, could you share your thoughts on the suspension and comfort for each when it comes to regular street driving?
You only drove it in its stock form. I own an R and immediately recognized its potential. With a single 3.8L Whipple supercharger, I get 1,000 HP, and it completely transforms the truck. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it in its factory state, but the R platform is the best truck ever made. It’s faster than a base Corvette, dominates off-road, and is the perfect daily driver all in one. The V-6 Raptor doesn’t provide this, and I consider it a waste of money.
The Raptor R and Raptor 37 have the same suspension, with perhaps a few software tuning adjustments to handle the slightly heavier front end, but there’s no real-world difference. Ultimately, it comes down to how much you want that extra 270 HP and the exhaust sound.
I can’t speak for the Raptor R, but after switching from a TRX to a Raptor, I definitely noticed the weight difference of the V8 while driving. I would assume that characteristic would be similar.
