Mid-life crisis or ultimate adventure rig?

Just hit the big 5-0 and built this truck for camping and overlanding. I can’t stop staring at it. Let me have it—what do you think?

It kind of looks like the type of truck border patrol would use. Just saying.

Funny you mention that. I got pulled over by a truck like this near the border in Arizona while driving a Civic on a dirt road. A guy with a big gun stepped out, and I realized I probably looked suspicious stopping every mile.

@Nova
Sounds like a fun day…

Hey, maybe I’ll use the rooftop tent as a deer blind. Not a bad idea!

Oh no…

@Rowan
Relax, it’s just a joke! I grew up in CA and some of my best friends are Latino. They’d laugh at this too.

You should probably add a winch for when you get stuck on a Costco parking island.

No winch! If I get stuck, I guess I’ll just leave it there. :joy:

All this gear and no winch? :joy:

This is the only modern truck that needs off-road suspension just to make it tolerable on pavement.

You’re not wrong.

Source: 2018 RCSB FX4. I’ve memorized every bump in my area.

@Cleo
It’s a truck. It’s not supposed to ride like a luxury car. Come ride in my ’99 F250 with leaf springs all around—it’ll make your F150 feel like a dream.

@Cleo
Reminds me of a local electrician’s F250 Tremor. Stiffest, most brutal suspension I’ve ever experienced, both on pavement and off-road. A shame the F150 isn’t much better.

Short bed, single cab. Useless as both a car and a truck. Well done!

Most people get a Corvette, but you went for the dumber option.

Mission accomplished!

The rooftop tent will get used exactly once when you’re first in line at Costco, and the traction boards are for getting around Karen in the parking lot.

Actually heading to Joshua Tree this weekend for its first (and maybe only) use. But you’re not wrong about Karen!
