Looking at a 2019 Raptor… what do I need to know?

Thinking about picking up a 2019 Raptor. What should I watch out for?

Appreciate it!

You’ll be good as long as you have an extended warranty. I have a ‘19 with 24k miles—zero issues and still love driving it. Good luck!

I’ve got a 2019 with 67k miles, and I love it.

How’s it holding up? Did you get an extended warranty?

82k miles now, still loving it!

Look into the cam phaser rattle on startup. Mine just started doing it.

Some people say it’s a $2,500 fix, but I’m getting quoted $5k. Also, the infotainment software is buggy—supposedly a fix is coming next month.

Up until this year, I loved mine. Transmission started shifting weird when I moved from Florida to the mountains, but the dealer reset it to ‘learn’ mode, and it’s been fine ever since.

@Charlie
Good info. I’m mainly worried about things not covered under the 100k mile powertrain warranty.

Buying a low-mileage, 4-year-old truck but still paying close to the original sticker price is a tough pill to swallow. The warranty definitely helps justify it in my head.

@Hayden
Yeah, cam phasers aren’t covered under the powertrain warranty.

Wait, I might’ve misread your post. You said ‘cam shifter’—I’m assuming you meant cam phaser? I haven’t researched much yet, just getting started.

If it’s an engine component, how is it NOT covered under powertrain?

2019, 50k miles. Shocks are still good, no cam phaser issues. Only thing that went wrong was a heated seat, which was fixed under warranty. Love this truck.

What happened with the heated seat? That’s exactly the kind of stuff I want to know—heated seats are a must for us.

@Hayden
Driver’s side stopped working. Dealer replaced the heating element, and it’s been perfect since.

It’s a cam phaser issue, and a lot of Gen 2 Raptors have had problems with them. If the engine rattles on startup, that’s the first sign.

Ford supposedly updated the engine control module (ECM) software for 2019+ models, and later production runs seem to have resolved it—seems like 2020+ engines don’t have the issue.

@Perrin
How is this not covered under powertrain warranty? Makes no sense… haha.

To be fair, I probably overstated how common it is. Forums make it sound like a bigger issue than it might actually be—people don’t usually post when things are working fine.

That said, if you’re looking at a used Gen 2 from a Ford dealer, ask for an OASIS report. It’ll show any warranty work or recalls that have been done.

@Perrin
That’s super helpful, thanks!

I have a 2019 with 80k miles. Got the updated cam phasers, and it’s been flawless since. Great truck!
