Issues with my Ranger Raptor after 3 days… any ideas?

After 3 days of driving my new Ranger Raptor and getting a paint protection film (PPF) installed, I noticed some issues popping up. Has anyone experienced this before I head to the dealer?

Try cleaning the sensors and cameras first.

Did they apply PPF over your parking aid sensors? That could mess things up.

@Sloane
Did they remove the tailgate during the PPF install? I had a similar issue after getting my bed sprayed—dealer had to reset it.

They didn’t remove the tailgate, just the lights and the rear camera for the install.

@Sloane
That might be it. The camera probably needs to be realigned since it was removed.

Can you scan the truck for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)? If the camera was removed, it likely needs to be realigned. If it’s under warranty, the dealer should handle it.

I’ll take it to the dealer as soon as they reply to my inquiry.

Make sure to explain everything to the dealer, especially about the PPF installation. It’ll save the tech time and might save you some labor costs.

Luckily, diagnostics are covered under the 5-year Ford warranty, and they offer free towing within an 80km radius for 3 years.

@Sloane
Just keep in mind that if the issue is related to the PPF installation, it might not be covered under warranty. Let the tech know what’s been done to save time.

@Sloane
Honestly, I wouldn’t stress too much. As a Ford tech, I’ve seen this issue before. It’s likely a simple camera alignment, and any competent tech should be able to figure it out quickly.

Ouch. That doesn’t sound fun.

Did they unplug any sensors or remove the tailgate? Similar issues happen with F-150s if the tailgate is unplugged while the truck is on.

I think they removed the Ford logo and rear camera during the PPF install.

@Sloane
That explains it. It’s likely related to that.

My wife’s Escape has issues with the sensors if there’s dirt, snow, or anything covering them. Maybe the film is affecting them?

I’m a Ford tech. When any of the 360 cameras are disconnected, they usually need realignment using the FDRS system. There’s a service bulletin about this issue too.

The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) likely need recalibration. Anytime sensors or cameras are unplugged, they have to be realigned. Not all shops have the right equipment for this.
