Is the Raptor worth the price tag?

I’m thinking about buying a truck and I really like the Raptor. It looks great, sounds awesome, and has everything I want in a truck.

But my question is, is it really worth the high price?

They say the base model starts around 52k, but everywhere I look they are priced at 68k or more.

How much did you all end up paying for yours? Any thoughts or experiences with the truck are welcome, both good and bad.

It really depends on what you plan to use it for. If you like going off-road, like overlanding or playing in the mud, then it’s definitely worth it. There’s nothing better for that.

I was surprised at how great it is for daily driving too. I have a 2018 with the 802A and Tech Package, and it has all the comforts I want, plus it’s amazing off-road.

If you’re not planning to use it for off-roading, there are better trucks for just on-road use.

@Finley
I’m thinking of using it as a work truck and something for the family too. I know the Raptors are roomy. I’d be driving it daily, hauling materials and tools around.

But what about the price? What did you end up paying? I see the 2019 and 2020 models are about the same price, but the dealerships are selling them for way more than the base price. Do you think I can negotiate it down a bit?

@Harlyn
I paid just over $70k for mine with all the options except the orange-accented seats.

@Harlyn
I had a Raptor for about a year, using it for work. I work in construction and as a work truck, it didn’t work for me. Towing was a challenge because the suspension is soft, and it felt unstable with a heavy trailer. The bed was also too short for construction materials. I loved the truck when I wasn’t using it for work but had to sell it after 20k miles. I sold it for $5k less than I paid, so resale was good.

@Harlyn
@Fluffster

If it’s just for work, I don’t think it’s the best fit for you. The Raptor is awesome, but it’s a luxury truck with a lot of performance features that you might not need for everyday work. You might get better value from an XLT or King Ranch. They make great work trucks and are usually cheaper with bigger discounts.

I paid $69,395 for mine and got $6,000 off. If you’re after value, the XLT or King Ranch will likely be more affordable.

@Finley
The Raptor holds its value better than most full-size trucks. Even if you’re not going off-road, it’s a better long-term investment than a regular F-150.

I’ve always wanted a Raptor, and I ended up getting a 2019 this year for under MSRP—about $58k. I contacted 40-50 dealerships and found the one willing to work with me.

I took it off-roading in the SoCal desert for the first 1,000 miles and it handled perfectly. Since then, I’ve been using it as a daily driver and for family trips, and I absolutely love it.

Just be careful with parking garages, as the truck is pretty tall.

@Fallon
I agree with the parking garage issue. Can’t fit in any structure lower than 6’9”.

@Fallon
Is it the 802A or 801A package?

It’s the 801A.

I know a dealer in Texas who sells Raptors without markups, and you can order one. Let me know if you want the details.

I’m interested! Can you share their info? I’m in San Diego and don’t want to deal with the markups.

What’s the dealer called?

Unfortunately, I don’t think they’re selling at MSRP anymore. It was Gallo Ford in Texas.

I just got a 2018 802A with 8k miles for $59k. It had never been off-road before. It’s certified pre-owned, so I got a 9-year, 100k warranty. I think used Raptors from Ford are a great deal because they come with a solid warranty and are usually in good shape. Also, dealers are motivated to sell them, especially since most Raptor buyers want new ones.

I’ve used it for work, towing a 5,500-pound trailer off-road through deep mud and sand. It handled it like a pro.

I use mine every day. I love it. Even though I don’t need it for off-roading, it’s a great looking, spacious, and well-equipped truck.

I’ve got other vehicles that are just as expensive, so money wasn’t a huge issue for us. If you like the truck and can afford it, go for it.

@Harlyn
I took my 2019 hunting for the first time last week. It’s fine for one or two people, but with four, the small payload became a problem.

@Harlyn
That’s good to know. I’m planning on using mine for work every day. What did your final price come out to? The dealerships around here are trying to sell it for $20k over the listed price.

Check out dealers out of state. You can find Raptors for under MSRP. I ordered my 2019 and got $4k off.
