Is the Raptor R worth the extra $30k?

The Raptor R seems like the craziest truck out there, but is it really worth the extra $30k? I’m debating whether the upgrade is worth it or if it’s just the same fun as a V6 Raptor but with a higher price tag.

I have the Raptor R. It’s fun, but I don’t think it’s worth the extra 30k. It’s not that much more fun than a V6 Raptor.

It’s fun for a while, but honestly, a sports car with 350-400hp feels much better on the road than a 6,000lb truck with 700hp. Plus, the Raptor R off-road doesn’t have enough suspension to back up all that power.

@Shan
I’ve been driving Raptors since 2011, and I’ve always said, ‘You’ll run out of suspension before you run out of power.’

I love the Raptor. It’s a great truck, but it’s not a race truck. A Can-Am X3 can outperform it. The Raptor R has tons of power, but if you push it too far off-road, you’ll get stuck. Power is great, but skill and control are what really count.

@Shan
Brendan Schaub flipped his truck doing that! Lol!

@Shan
I tell everyone, the reason there are so many Raptors with less than 1,000 miles is because people realize they’re only fun for that first 1,000 miles.

@Shan
I went from a TRX to an M2 Comp, and I 100% agree. I’d much rather have a nimble sports car than a 700hp truck.

Glad I came across this comment. I’ve been thinking about trading my 2021 Raptor for an R, but now I’m having second thoughts.

@Franz
Same here. What did you decide to do? Still driving your 2021?

It’s your money, so get what you want. You can make a regular Gen 3 Raptor very capable with some upgrades. Just ask yourself if you can handle the power safely. Also, are warranties important to you?

@Franz
I found one for $129k. Initially offered $58k for mine, but I ended up getting $65k. Who did you get the extended warranty through?

I got it through Ford for $930 for two more years or 75,000 miles.

@Franz
Thanks for the info!

I have the R, and for me, it’s totally worth every penny.

If you can afford the extra $30k, I think it’s worth it.

I’ve had three Raptors, including a 2023, and I had the chance to get an R, but I opted for the 3.5L. The 700hp was fun for a couple of stoplights, but for off-roading and around town, it’s just too much power.

@Parker
How do you like the 3.5L?

No issues at all with the 3.5L. The 19 had a cam phaser issue, but it was fixed right before I traded it. I wish Ford would make a hybrid with extra boost power, though.

@Parker
Thanks for the feedback! I have a 2021 Raptor and was thinking about getting the R. After reading this, I’m sticking with my 2021.
