I’m debating whether to buy a used Raptor, but I’m concerned about what these trucks might have gone through. Spending $100k on a new one isn’t an option for me. Am I taking a big risk buying used? Apologies if this has been asked before!
Most Raptors are ‘Mall Terrain Vehicles’ that rarely see dirt. While some may be beaten up, there are plenty of well-maintained used ones out there.

True, but the crazy market prices scare me, especially considering potential issues with a used truck.
If you’re outside California, look into extended warranties through Lombard or Zeigler for peace of mind when buying used.

Is this done at the dealership or is it a third-party process?
Used Raptors can be great, especially if you get an extended warranty. You can find good Gen 2s for $40-50k. Gen 3s are pricier but worth considering if your budget allows.
I’ve owned five used Raptors, and none had major issues. Just check maintenance records and signs of abuse. Extended warranties are worth it. My 2023 37PP was $20k under MSRP after sitting for months on the lot.
@Haru
That’s a great deal. My main worry with Raptors is the turbos, which is why I’m also considering a 2023 Lariat with the 5.0.
When buying used, look for:
- Maintenance and repair records.
- Rust issues.
- Dealer purchase for warranty safety.
- Avoid heavily modified trucks.
- Get a pre-purchase inspection.
These steps can save you headaches down the line.
Let someone else take the depreciation hit. I got a 2020 with 65k miles for $48k, and it’s been amazing. Always buy an extended warranty—these trucks have expensive parts.

I always go for extended warranties. It’s a no-brainer for me.
I’ve owned five Raptors and recommend avoiding heavily modified ones. Most Raptors are lightly used. A pre-purchase inspection is always a good idea.
Gen 1s are great. EcoBoost models can be a gamble, which is why their used prices are often similar. Extended warranties are a must.

That’s why I’m leaning toward either a 2023 Lariat 4WD with the 5.0 or a 2021 Raptor. The Lariat is almost $20k cheaper.
Check out this beauty: https://placehold.co/600x400.png. It’s for sale, $30k.
@Brett
Looks great! Unfortunately, I’m not near SoCal.
