Gen 3- Bak Revolver x4s Question

I bought this cover for my new Gen 3 from real truck.com. Confirmed 3 times it was the correct cover before ordering lol! I installed the cover to find out the truck bed was 1/4" wider than what it needed to be in order for the cover to latch properly. Called customer service and they said I needed shims and that this is typical. One would think they would include the shims with the cover?! Anyways it was going to take them a month to get me the shims. I ended up 3D printing my own and got it to work just fine.

Anyone else have this issue with the same cover | their Gen 3? I’m curious to see if the tolerance on these trucks vary that much. Other than that, this is a great cover! Highly recommend…just measure before committing lol!

There are manufacturing tolerances in those beds, so sometimes shims are necessary. They don’t include shims in the box because they won’t know exactly what you’ll need until it’s installed, which is completely normal. They sent me 1/8” shims for free. I also noticed that the back of the revolver can be slightly out of square with the front due to some slack in the panel hinges that can add up. I fixed mine by shifting the rear of the cover a bit and then re-tightening the front screws. The installation videos make it clear that some adjustment and fitting are required, but once it’s set up, it’s rock solid. If you’re getting 100% latch engagement on one side and none on the other, the cover is likely out of square. Aim for around 50% engagement on each side for proper alignment.

Thanks for the info! I figured the beds varied. Was just curious. I’m very happy with this cover! They make great stuff and their customer service is awesome!

So I did watch the install video that real-truck had on their website for this exact cover | on an F-150. They most certainly did NOT mention shims or adjustments lol! Matter of fact I watched a few videos…the only one that mentioned anything about measurements was for a Silverado lol! I believe they give a dimension you need to hold between the rails. I will admit, I should have read the entire set of instructions before getting into the install…step 11 they mention to hold the 1/8" tolerance. Seems like that should have been earlier in the instructions

Also- Bak said they only make (2) variants of shims- 1/16" and 1/8" shims. I’m sorry but no reason they couldn’t include those at this price point. It’s been about a month and I still have received the shims. Regardless- I made it work. Awesome product! Hopefully someone reading this will get some helpful knowledge.

I bought the same bed cover from Real Truck and didn’t have any issues at all.

I’ve had absolutely zero issues with mine, and I also have the X4S for my '23 Gen 3.

Return it and get the Rough Country tonneau cover for any 5’6" F-150. It fits perfectly.

I’m happy with the cover! No plans to return it. I just wanted to see how much other people had to shim their covers or if they had to shim them. Rough Country makes some good stuff though! Their customer support is awesome. Really good people over there.
