Is the Raptor worth all the hype? Let’s hear from actual owners!
Depends on what you’re doing with it.
If you’re sticking to city driving, it’s like any other truck—smooth, comfortable, and easy to handle. But the bed is small (5.5’), so don’t expect to haul much besides off-road gear.
For off-roaders, it shines in wide open spaces like deserts or plains, where it eats up rough terrain at speed. In rock-crawling scenarios, it’s decent but not ideal—long wheelbase and wide track make it less maneuverable than a Jeep.
Mud? Fun, but nothing revolutionary compared to other half-ton trucks.
Speed is its real game. If you want a truck that dominates high-speed off-road runs, the Raptor is unmatched under $70K. Plus, it turns heads in town.
@Freddie
This was the perfect breakdown. Thanks so much!
It’s a fantastic truck—tons of power and really fun to drive. Just be careful; it’s hard not to speed!

It’s great, but let’s clarify—it’s the best factory off-road truck with a warranty for the money. You could build something crazier for less if you don’t mind skipping the warranty and financing mods separately.
@Merlin
Sure, you could build a prerunner from an older F-150 for less, but replicating a new Raptor’s capabilities from scratch would cost more than its sticker price. Throwing on big tires and a lift kit doesn’t make it a Raptor.
@Freddie
If only they made an e-locker for the ’07 F-150…

Check out air lockers! They run off a compressor and are basically the same idea.

Just looked into it—seems awesome! I might upgrade my compressor to use it for tire fills too. My wife’s going to kill me for adding this to my list.
@Cassian
Haha, glad I could help (and sorry about the wife)!
It’s awesome—handles off-road trails, comfy on long trips, and even fine for town driving. Comes with a brake controller and tows well. I even took mine to a road course last weekend.

Don’t forget the gas mileage…
@Hartley
Fair point. On the highway, I averaged 17.8 MPG, but on the track, I got 6 MPG—basically full throttle or full braking the whole time.
I love my 2010 Raptor. Sure, the bed capacity is only 900 lbs, but it’s super comfy and reliable. I upgraded to HID headlights, and it’s great for towing boats or hauling lumber—even if there’s mud or gravel in the way.
@Sterling
That 900 lbs rating is conservative. I’ve hauled plenty with mine, and it handled it just fine.
What’s the real-world MPG like?

From my experience with a 2010 SuperCab 6.2L: 14 MPG highway, 12 MPG city, and 5 MPG when tearing through the desert.

Highway: 17.8 MPG at 65 MPH. Mixed driving? Around 15 MPG. Push it hard, and you’re looking at single digits.
