Saw an article ranking the most expensive vehicles to own and operate, and the Raptor took the #1 spot. What do you guys think? Fair ranking or just clickbait?
I’d love to see the full list because I can think of plenty of massive diesel trucks that HAVE to be more expensive to run than some of the vehicles they ranked.

Seriously. Diesels need two fuel filters, more oil, bigger tires wear out faster, and the maintenance is crazy expensive.
I don’t buy this list unless you’re constantly replacing cam phasers and rebuilding shocks.
@Kase
Depends on the time frame. Diesel maintenance is expensive, but if you keep up with it, they last way longer than gas engines before needing major repairs.

Yeah, but on any 2010+ diesel, major repairs are way more expensive. Injectors are $2,200+, fuel lines and pumps cost thousands, exhaust systems aren’t cheap, and turbo replacements are brutal.
For Raptors, the main issues are timing chains, cam phasers, and maybe a water pump. That’s nothing compared to diesel repairs.
@Kase
Fair point. Most major repairs don’t happen until after 100k miles, but yeah, emissions systems on modern diesels are a mess.
@Kase
My brother completely ditched fuel injection on his old Tacoma and swapped in a Weber carburetor. Honestly, as vehicles age, retrofitting stuff like that starts making a lot of sense.

Don’t forget about rebuilding the suspension every 50k miles, depending on how hard you drive it.
They ranked it #1 based on fuel and insurance costs. No surprise there—37-inch tires don’t help either.

Weirdly enough, my insurance is actually really reasonable. The gas and tires, though? Definitely not cheap.
@Bailey
Yeah, same here. My insurance barely changed when I switched to the Raptor.

I was shocked when my premium only went up by $20 a month.

And those 37s are stupid expensive to replace… I’m already halfway through my KO2s at 14k miles.
@Ode
Just bought a new set—$1,700 for KO2s. That hurt.

Yeah, that stings.

I was quoted $2,200. Even worse.

That’s insane. I’d be shopping around for sure.

Yeah, I got a better quote elsewhere. Some shops definitely try to overcharge.
@Ode
I have a love-hate relationship with KO2s.
