Finally upgraded from Gen 2 to Gen 3!

I’ve been thinking about upgrading too, but it’s hard to justify the extra cost. Does it really ride that much better than the Gen 2?

Oh, absolutely. My Gen 2 was a 2019, which had the updated suspension, and I thought that was a big improvement. But this Gen 3 feels like a totally different level—it’s incredibly smooth on the road, like driving a Cadillac. Haven’t hit any trails yet, but on pavement, it’s a huge difference. MSRP was $82K, but I managed to get it for $78K plus taxes. The factory rigid lights and exhaust valves sealed the deal for me—they saved me about $2,400 in upgrades. Plus, I get to start fresh with the warranty, and the bigger screens and camera features make it super convenient.

@Logan
Thanks, that really helps me think it over!

@Logan
The factory rigid lights aren’t great, but it’s nice that the wiring is all set if you want to upgrade them.

Ford actually has an upgrade kit to replace those lights if you want better performance.

@Logan
What’s your take on the Gen 3 exhaust tone compared to the Borla exhaust you had on your Gen 2?

The Borla Atak on my Gen 2 had a deeper tone and was definitely louder than even the Baja mode on the Gen 3. But I’m happy with the factory exhaust—it’s got a nice tone, and I appreciate being able to make it quieter when needed. Plus, the pops and bangs in Baja mode add a little extra fun!

@Logan
Good to know! The pops and burbles on the Gen 3 are definitely a nice touch. I always felt like the Gen 2 exhaust sounded a bit underwhelming in videos. Thanks for the insight!

In Baja mode, I get way more pops and bangs than I ever did with the Borla on my Gen 2. It’s a fun change!

@Logan
A Raptor’s supposed to ride like a Raptor, not a luxury sedan! :joy: Just kidding. The new interior and Sync 4 are definitely nice upgrades. What Borla exhaust did you have on your Gen 2? I’m thinking of getting one.

For me, the $6,000 difference from my 2019 Gen 2 to the 2024 Gen 3 was totally justified just for the tech alone. Add in the smoother ride, and I’m happy with what I paid.

@Logan
Did your 2019 have the live valve shocks, the orange ones? My 2020 has those, and I think they’re the same as on the newer models.

If you have a Gen 2, you could just spend about $3K on a Goosetuned Stage 2 with the custom TCM tune. It’ll make you fall in love with your truck all over again. I thought about upgrading to Gen 3, but couldn’t justify the cost for what’s pretty similar. The Gen 2’s look is still my favorite, though.

@Thyme
Between the transmission and cam phasers, you might have that truck for a long time!

I’ve got almost 100K miles on my dad’s Gen 2, and it still drives like new. No issues so far, but I did have a fuel pump replaced on my Gen 3 under warranty. Hopefully, it’s not a lemon.

@Thyme
I’ve got the Goosetuned engine and TCM tunes on my Gen 2, and they’re worth every penny. Thinking about going Stage 2 as well.

Totally agree! The TCM tune makes such a difference. I’d actually recommend it even more than the engine tune to anyone who’s on the fence.

I’ve got a 2020 that I’m planning to mod now that it’s not my daily. Just curious what setup you’re running.

@Yan
It’s stock aside from the Goosetuned engine and TCM tunes. The trans tune alone made a huge difference—it shifts so much smoother now.
