Dream Raptor turning into a headache… Anyone else having issues?

I’ve wanted a Raptor since the Gen1 came out, and I finally got my dream truck—a brand-new Gen3 earlier this year. At first, I was over the moon, but in just four months, I’ve already run into a handful of issues that are frustrating me:

  1. Master switch module failed, and my rear passenger window wouldn’t go up. Ford fixed it.
  2. Tailgate ajar warning won’t go away, and Ford can’t figure out what’s causing it.
  3. Gauge cluster resets weekly. Sometimes it shuts off completely while I’m driving, leaving me with a blank screen. Setting up my preferences feels pointless since it resets anyway.
  4. The auto vents behind the grille keep trying to actuate on startup, but they get stuck and snap back. Hard to explain, and Ford doesn’t know how to fix it.

None of these issues make the truck undrivable, but it’s frustrating that my $80k Raptor has more problems in four months than my $50k Ram ever did. Anyone else dealing with similar problems?

My 2022 has had the screen reset a few times, but it’s always been after an update. Annoying, sure, but it hasn’t been frequent enough to bother me. Otherwise, no issues.

Yeah, it doesn’t take long to reset everything, but for the price of these trucks, you’d think stuff like this wouldn’t be an issue.

@Orin
Totally agree. At least you’re still under warranty, so hopefully, Ford will get everything sorted soon. Sucks that it’s taking away from the experience, though.

I’ve had a 2021 for 15 months now. Only issue so far has been the battery going bad.

The power loss on startup might be a transmission programming issue. Try a reset.

Already had the transmission reset, so it’s not that. Feels like a power issue, not a gearing one.

The battery could be causing some of his problems, honestly.

Could be. I’m convinced the auto updates are what’s killing these batteries.

@Linden
I’m on my third battery. The first two died a couple of days after updates.

Yep, same here. After a big update, my battery died within a week. I’ve since turned off auto updates. Fingers crossed that solves it.

I have a Gen2, and it’s been a mixed bag:

  1. Sunroof broke the first week. Needed a full track replacement ($4k).
  2. After a stoplight pull, the truck went into limp mode and threw a terrain management error.
  3. On a road trip, auto start/stop failed to turn the truck back on at a light. Took a lot of trial and error to get it restarted.
  4. Random infotainment issues.
  5. Sometimes the truck loses power for a split second when accelerating from a cold start.
  6. Driver’s side mirror clicks and gets stuck when adjusting with the memory seats.

Ford hasn’t been able to figure out most of these issues.

@Marlo
I’ve got the same problem with the clicking mirrors. How’d you get it fixed?

I didn’t, honestly. Just living with it.

Mine did the same thing, and it turned out to be a bad motor in the mirror.

Did Ford fix it under warranty?

@Kai
They replaced it when I had the truck in for a broken front diff. I think they billed my warranty for it.

What year is your Gen3?

It’s a 2023. Picked it up in January.

Have you considered looking into the lemon law?

I don’t know much about how it works or if I’d even qualify. I don’t want to spend money on a lawyer if it’s not worth it.
