Are Ford Raptors reliable or just expensive to maintain?

I paid just over $40K for my ‘18 with 58K miles. You can probably find a cheaper one.

I’ve worked in car sales/finance for a while. I know I can negotiate it down, just trying to figure out what’s a fair price.

@Taj
Think you could sell yourself a warranty at cost? Might be worth it for peace of mind.

If the cam phasers haven’t failed yet, they probably will. That’s a $3-4K fix. Sunroof rails tend to break, transmissions sometimes shift hard, and the shocks will need to be rebuilt eventually.

$34K isn’t bad if none of those issues exist and it hasn’t been wrecked, lived in salt, or been a lemon buyback.

@Jai
I’ve heard about cam phasers, but do you know of a good video that explains the issue clearly?

Here’s what the cam phaser rattle sounds like on a cold start:

If you can, try to find one with under 80K miles so you can still get an extended warranty. I’ve seen some Gen 2 Raptors with over 100K miles going for high $20Ks now.

Have the cam phasers been replaced? What about transmission and differential fluid? If you go for it, you can still get brand-new OEM Fox shocks for a decent price from Rock Auto. That mileage seems high for $34K, though.

@Rio
Yeah, that’s why I’m asking. What do you think a fair price is?

Too many miles for that price. If you buy used, get a solid warranty. Mine covered $11K in repairs—sunroof, turbos, timing cover. Shocks also need rebuilding often.

That’s a lot of miles. I’d try to find one with lower mileage, even if it costs a little more.
