I’m seriously considering getting a Ranger Raptor. I want something that offers great performance and can still be comfortable for daily drives around town. I don’t plan on towing anything heavy—just dirt bikes or snowmobiles on weekends. The Ranger Raptor seems to check all the boxes.
My main worry is reliability. I plan on keeping my next truck for around 10 years. I’ve heard that earlier Ranger models had transmission issues, among other problems. I know the internet can exaggerate things, but I want to know if anyone who owns a Ranger Raptor has any regrets or has dealt with any issues after owning one. Are there things you wish you had known before buying?

I get that they’re complex, but I thought the same about my old cars. In 10 years, we’ll have repair guides for everything. Sure, cars aren’t built like they used to be, but with proper maintenance, I think a newer model can last a while. Only time will tell.

Well, if my '21 Raptor is any indication, we might be in for a rough ride with newer vehicles.
What kind of problems are you having with it?
I’ve had to replace the shocks, there were software issues causing the shocks to stiffen, IWEs were replaced, the drive mode controller broke, and the modem needed replacing. If I didn’t have Forscan, I would’ve been totally stuck. I almost lemon-lawed it, but a lot of this stuff happened after 18 months.
I recommend checking out Ranger6G.com. It’s the biggest community for Ranger Raptors, and you can find tons of discussions and reviews there to help you make your decision.
The truck hasn’t been out long enough to know how it handles higher mileage, but we’ve sold quite a few, and I’ve only seen one come in for repairs (allegedly phasers).
It’s still too early to tell. But that 3.0 motor is fantastic. I think it’s even better than the one in the ST Explorer, with improved heads and exhaust.
I’ve heard that there are some engine replacement recalls for the 2.7 and 3.0 Ecoboosts. Considering the history with the 3.5 in the Gen 2, I’d personally only buy one if it’s new or comes with an extended warranty.
Honestly, if you’re looking at the Ranger Raptor for that price, you might want to consider a used F150 Raptor. You can get a 2022 F150 for that price, and it’s much nicer overall.
