Anyone using a Raptor as their only vehicle? Thinking about selling my 4Runner

Just picked up a ‘23 Raptor with the 37PP two weeks ago, and I’m absolutely loving it. I also have a 2022 4Runner TRD Pro, but I’m realizing pretty quickly that managing two vehicles might not be the best move for me.

Financially, I can comfortably afford both, and my 4Runner will be paid off in about 10 months. But ever since getting the Raptor, I’ve barely driven the 4Runner—it mostly just sits in storage. If I sell it, I’d free up around $40K in cash and a $1200/month payment, which could be put to better use.

The thing holding me back is that I’m emotionally attached to the 4Runner. It’s been super reliable, and I’ve used it for camping, off-roading, and hiking. My biggest concern is whether the Raptor can handle being my only vehicle for long-distance trips and remote adventures. I plan to keep this truck for 10+ years and probably put 200K miles on it.

Would love to hear from those who daily their Raptors. How’s the reliability long-term?

I’ve got a ‘22 Raptor 37, and it’s my daily and only vehicle. Sell the 4Runner and don’t look back.

Same here—‘22 with the 35 package, and I haven’t needed a second vehicle.

My ‘19 Raptor is my only ride.

I daily my Raptor, and I’d say most owners do. If it works as a daily, it can work as your only truck. My only complaint is that parking in tight city spots can be a hassle, but otherwise, I have zero regrets.

I’m in a different situation (wife and kid), but honestly, if I were in your shoes, I’d be fine with just the Raptor. We mainly use ours on weekends, and our second SUV barely gets used.

Sell the 4Runner. That $40K and $1200/month could be put to much better use—vacations, investments, mods for the Raptor, or even just sitting in an Ally savings account earning ~$2K/year in interest.

I daily my ‘19 Raptor for a 50-mile round trip commute in Houston. My wife and I always take the Raptor when we go out as a family of four because it’s just that comfortable. Only thing to consider is parking—most garages need a 7’ clearance, so keep that in mind.

@Vesper
Hey, I’m also in Houston! Any good trails I should check out? I’m picking up my Raptor on the 4th! :call_me_hand:

Check out Lake Tombigbee campgrounds—not a trail, but a great spot for camping and off-road access.

@Vesper
That place is solid!

@Vesper
Thanks! I just moved from Utah, where there was tons of BLM land. Super excited to get back into off-roading!

If you’re heading into Houston, get a bed cover and a wheel lock. My ‘19 Raptor had its taillights stolen—$500 each because of the sensors. Had a Ranger before, and that got stolen right out of my driveway. Protect your truck, man! :call_me_hand:

@Ash
Damn, that sucks. I’ve been here for six months, and someone already stole my longboard off my lawn. Thinking about putting up a gate, but yeah, if they want it, they’ll take it. Good tip on the bed cover, though!

Sell the 4Runner, put that $1200/month toward paying off the Raptor sooner, and get the longest extended service plan from Zeigler or Granger Ford online.

Then in 5-7 years, you’ll be in a position to upgrade to a Raptor R without car payments.

@Bay
Yeah, I have the 75K warranty plan. It’s just the emotional connection to the 4Runner that’s making this so hard.

$1200 a month… for a 4Runner!? Damn, man. :exploding_head:

Yep, but I’m paying it off in 2.5 years while still investing 60% of my income. :slightly_smiling_face:

My ‘20 Raptor has been my only vehicle for four years and is about to hit 100K miles. Best truck I’ve ever owned. No regrets, and I’ll be upgrading to a Gen 3 when the time comes.

Unrelated, but curious—how does the Raptor compare to the 4Runner in terms of cabin noise and comfort? I’ve got a ‘19 TRD Pro and thinking about switching up.

Man, I thought the TRD Pro was comfortable… until I drove the Raptor. The difference is night and day. The Raptor is quiet, smooth, and has way better tech. Toyota is great for reliability, but they’re so outdated.

If comfort is a priority, the Raptor wins, no question.
