Anyone else had a CDF drum failure?

Hello,

My '19 F150 Raptor started shifting funny and flaring between shifts; has 51,xxx miles.

Service advisor says my truck needs a CDF shift drum replacement. It is under extended power train warranty.

Is this a fix or something that will go wrong again in the future. Also, is there anything that could be done to prevent another failure?

Thanks

Everything I’ve read suggests that after the CDF drum fix, the transmissions perform well.

If the repair is done at a dealer, they now use a revised Mustang drum, which includes a ridge to secure the bushing in place—likely the issue in your transmission. Be sure to replace the center support tower it rides on, as well as the outer planetary cylinder, which is probably worn out from the F-clutch friction rings. With updated seals throughout the transmission, it should shift like it’s brand new again.

I had mine repaired at around 85k, but the transmission failed again at 99k and needed a full rebuild. If there’s a way to prevent another failure, I’d love to know as well.

I had it overhauled at 50K miles for the CDF drum and valve body because it was flaring between 7th and 8th gears.

What do you mean by “shifting funny”? My 2019 shifts really hard, almost jerking you forward in sport mode.

Sport mode will do that. If it’s noticeable in normal drive mode than you have an issue

It was flaring between gear shifts, similar to what happens in a manual transmission when the clutch is worn out.
