Not usually a truck person, but Jack makes the Ranger Raptor look ridiculously fun. The interview with the chief engineer is solid too. What are your thoughts?

At MSRP, the Ranger Raptor seems like a steal with the suspension upgrades and the 3.0 Ecoboost. For $55K, you’re either getting a cloth-seat half-ton or a mid-trim Bronco. But we all know how Ford dealers love their markups…
Also, I’m excited about the 2.7 Ecoboost coming to the Ranger. That’s one of the best engines in the half-ton market right now.
@Haru
The 2.7L from GM is impressive too—minor issues, tons of power. Annoyed that Ford didn’t launch the 2.7 with the Ranger initially.

Man, imagine if they’d put the 2.7 in the Camaro before killing it. The 2.0 is fun, but the 2.7 would’ve been wild.
@Ash
I had a CT4 V loaner with the 2.7. Zero personality, but wow—it’s quick and packed with mid-range power. With the 10-speed, it’s pretty impressive for ‘just’ 320 hp.

Not sure why GM put it in that car. It doesn’t scream performance.
@Eli
Honestly, GM doesn’t seem to have much below the LT1. A 3.6 NA engine might’ve been more fun, even if slower.
@Ash
I’m curious to test drive a CT4 V. That engine feels better suited for trucks than cars—very diesel-like in power delivery.
@Haru
I’ve got a Ranger Raptor on order, but honestly, I’d prefer an SUV. The Bronco at a similar spec costs $8-10K more, and the Land Cruiser is even pricier. Ford should really bring the Everest Raptor to the U.S.
@Brenner
Did you manage to order one at MSRP?

Yeah, after some shopping around, I found a dealer willing to sell at MSRP.

Is your price locked in writing? Dealers love to add markups at the last minute.
@Ash
I’ve got a signed build sheet showing MSRP, so I’m hopeful. If the dealer tries to pull anything, I’ll just wait a year and buy one below MSRP when they start sitting on lots.
Have you driven the Duramax? It’s another great option in this space.

The Duramax is solid but slower and more complex with DEF systems to manage. For most people, the 2.7 Ecoboost is a better mix of cost, power, and reliability.
@Haru
True, but the Duramax’s effortless torque and fuel economy are unbeatable. I’ve got a ZR2 with the 3.0L, and it’s a great combo.

I’m not interested in diesels. The cost of maintenance and fuel doesn’t make sense unless you’re towing constantly.
This seems like everything I love about the F-150 Raptor but way more manageable for daily use. I want one!

Agreed. Mid-size trucks are finally getting the attention they deserve.
It’s a great truck, but is it worth $20K CAD more than the Colorado ZR2?
