2019 F-150 STX… Just My Luck

Truck’s acting up, and I have no clue why. Just my luck.

That’s the auto-start feature.

Auto-start? With a key ignition? Yeah, I think I bought a dud.

That was my attempt at humor. I have no idea what’s wrong with your truck. But as someone who just dropped off their F-150 for its second set of cam phasers, I’m trying to find laughs wherever I can.

@Oren
I totally get it. For what it’s worth, I actually laughed when I read your comment. :joy::joy::joy:

:joy: Hope you get it figured out, man. Good luck!

@Oren
Damn, sorry to hear that. I just bought my first F-150—what year and model do you have? Which ones usually have cam phaser issues?

I’ve got a 2017 XLT with the 3.5 EcoBoost. First time it needed cam phasers was at 62k miles (covered under warranty). Now it’s back in at 98k, and this time it’s gonna cost me $3,800 plus tax. If it happens again, I’m trading it in. Other than that, it’s been a solid truck.

@Oren
Is the rattle super obvious? Like, will I know right away if mine has the issue?

It only happens when you start the truck after it’s been sitting for a few hours. You’ll hear a rattle for 2-3 seconds right at startup. There are plenty of YouTube videos that show what it sounds like.

AI facial recognition auto-start via HUD. :laughing:

Looks like your ignition is stuck in the ‘on’ position… try putting the key in and turning it off.

Tried that. No luck.

No luck turning the key? Or no luck stopping it from cranking?

@Chen
Both. It’s in the shop now.

Man, electrical issues suck. Hope they figure it out for you.

Well… at least the starter is working. :+1:

Could be a stuck starter solenoid or relay. Maybe a miswired or shorted connection in the relay box?

Probably miswired. I did smell burning plastic… not a great sign.
